The Frankford
The Frankford is a four-over-one mixed-use project located at 1120 Frankford Avenue, in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, northeast of Center City. The site is bounded by Frankford Avenue to the east, Dunton Street to the west, with private property to the north and south. The east portion of the podium along the main frontage of Frankford Avenue includes roughly 6,500 square feet of retail space, tenant amenities, and the main residential entrance. In the west portion of the podium an intermediate floor is introduced and the ground level depressed, to allow for two levels of residential within the podium. There are four full levels of residential above the podium, which with the residential in the podium, provide 150 dwelling units in total. The building includes a green roof with a roof deck tenant amenity.
Fishtown is a neighborhood with a working-class history that today attracts the cutting edge in culinary, art, and music trends. The Frankford draws inspiration from the working-class history while striking a balance with the cutting edge. The brick façade and loft style windows along Frankford Avenue reflect the industrial past of the site while the west side of the building introduces a modern aesthetic utilizing metal panel to vary the façade and reduce the overall massing of the building. The areas of metal panel compliment the brick façade, maintaining the rhythm and proportions established on the main façade.
